2020 Vision Committee Member Wins Nobel Prize
Amartya Sen, a member of IFPRI’s 2020 Vision International Advisory Committee, has won the Nobel Prize in economics for his work explaining the economic mechanisms underlying famines and poverty. His 1981 book Poverty and Famines: An Essay on Entitlement and Deprivation challenges the view that food shortages are the single most important cause of famines. Sen recently joined Britain’s Trinity College at Cambridge after teaching at Harvard University, among other institutions.
