Committees Meet to Advise 2020 Networks in East and West Africa
To review the 1999 activities of the 2020 Vision networks for East and West Africa and to help guide plans for research and capacity strengthening activities in 2000, the regional advisory committee for each network met in fall 1999.
The advisory committee for the West Africa network met October 12–13 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. In attendance were the chairmen of each of the country teams in the network and representatives from the partner network, Securité Alimentaire Durable en Afrique de l’Ouest Centrale (SADAOC), as well as the Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRN), several CGIAR centers interested in collaborating with the network, several donor agencies interested in supporting the network, and the IFPRI 2020 team. Moise Mensah of Benin was elected chairman of the committee.
The regional advisory committee for the East Africa network met on November 22–23 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Participants were the chairmen of each of the country teams and representatives from the partner network, Eastern and Central Africa Programme for Agricultural Policy Analysis (ECAPAPA), several CGIAR centers interested in collaborating with the network, and donor agencies, as well as the IFPRI 2020 team. Harris Mule of Kenya was elected to chair the committee. Efforts are under way to secure necessary funding to make the network operational in 2000.
