Español: (PDF 331K)Research in the Environment and Production Technology Division focuses on meeting food production needs in developing countries in ways that are beneficial to the poor and do not degrade the natural resource base. This involves identifying the most appropriate technological and institutional changes and policies for sustainable and equitable agricultural production. Research attempts to identify appropriate policies for less-favored rainfed areas, including forest margins, hillsides, and semi-arid lands, and water management policies for high-potential irrigated areas. The division's research mandate also includes work on agricultural research and extension and on property rights and collective action.
