Abstract
Significant progress in human development will not be made unless emerging and reemerging health and nutrition issues are addressed head-on. The HIV/AIDS epidemic, whose epicenter is gradually shifting from Sub-Saharan Africa to Asia, threatens the food security and survival of entire populations. Obesity in women and children is escalating in parts of the developing world, often coexisting with undernutrition and posing a difficult development challenge when resources are limited. The developing world's population is becoming older; by 2020, over 700 million people will be over 60 years of age, and their health and nutrition concerns will compete for increased attention and resources. Many of these problems are no longer just the domain of the health sector; they demand larger, development solutions from the public and private sectors.

To better understand the pressing health and nutrition concerns that will influence the well-being of the developing world's population during the next two decades, the 2020 Vision Initiative has commissioned a set of policy briefs from leading experts. Please join a panel of five experts as they present a selection of the briefs' findings. Copies of the complete set of 2020 Focus briefs will be available at the meeting.
