Abstract

Against a backdrop of rising concern about the nature and magnitude of interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, an international conference organized by IFPRI was held in Durban, South Africa on 14-16 April 2005. Its objectives were to enhance learning about the interactions between HIV/AIDS and food and nutrition security, how these interactions may be addressed, and to forge links between different countries, sectors, and perspectives -- both in research and in action. Following a peer-review process, IFPRI will be bringing out the various papers presented at this conference, along with an overview of the proceedings and conclusions in two linked volumes. The first volume will focus on the interactions and impacts, the second on responses -- from the community up to international level. The purpose of this seminar is to share and to discuss the main highlights, conclusions and suggested next steps from Durban.
