Before coming to IFPRI in 1976, Raisuddin Ahmed served the government of his native Bangladesh as deputy chief of the Agriculture and Water Resources Division of the Planning Commission and as chief agricultural economist of the Ministry of Agriculture. Formerly director of the Markets and Structural Studies Division, Ahmed has been involved in research on food marketing and pricing policies in Asia and Africa. He also has been examining the effects of infrastructure on agricultural productivity, rural employment, and rural income distribution. He received an M.A. in economics and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Michigan State University, an M.S. in agricultural economics from the American University in Beirut, and a B.S. in agricultural sciences from Dhaka University.
