Samuel Benin, a citizen of Ghana, joined IFPRI as a Research Fellow in February 2004. Benin earned a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon (1988), an M.S. in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1993) and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis (1998). At IFPRI, Benin works on assessing the economy-wide impacts of public investments in agriculture and rural areas and identifying investment options for achieving growth, income and poverty-reduction targets in sub-Saharan Africa. He is also leading IFPRI's Uganda country strategy support program. Prior to joining IFPRI, Benin worked for the International Research Institute (ILRI) in Addis Ababa where he led, developed and implemented research projects in the area of livestock.
