Côte d'Ivoire Project

Côte d'Ivoire: Research Tasks

The main tasks of the project are:

  • to improve understanding of potential structural and institutional obstacles to the development of an efficient private-sector-based rice marketing system;
  • to analyze the likely impact of market reform options on the structure and performance of local rice markets and on productivity and growth in the rice sector;
  • to understand the determinants of private trader investment behavior and participation in input and output marketing in the rice sector, in order to identify strategies towards the promotion of private sector involvement in case of state withdrawal;
  • to identify the role of the state in the context of liberalized rice markets; and
  • to construct a package of replicable techniques that can be used by national policy analysts and advisors to guide the design and monitor the implementation of eventual rice market reform programs.
