| Summary: | This project, part of a multi-country study, sought to identify major factors affecting the evolution of land tenure institutions and to explore quantitatively the effects of various land tenure institutions on the efficiency of forest resource management and on agriculture. Analysis was based on a survey of 60 communes and 250 households in northern Viet Nam. Findings point to the importance of transferring land rights from the state to individual farmers to improve the efficiency of forest land use. In 1998, an international conference was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan University to disseminate the results. |
