| Summary: |
In 1997, the project developed a method to generate disaggregated poverty maps by
combining survey and census data, and applied this method to Viet Nam. It
demonstrated that certain household characteristics, when combined, can be used
to identify poor households, thereby facilitating targeting. The method was used
to produce a map classifying rural districts in Viet Nam by poverty level and could
be used to classify more disaggregated units as well.
In 2000, researchers began work to update the province and district level maps to incorporate more recent survey and census data; and to disaggregate the data further to produce commune-level poverty maps. The study will also assess the accuracy of alternative methods to generate the maps. |
