Collaborators: MARD (Department of Policy, Department of Extension, Department of Animal Health); the Animal Husbandry Research Institute; Institute of Animal Sciences and the Veterinary Research Institute, Vietnam.
Summary: This study intends to provide an overview of the current and potential status of the livestock subsector in Vietnam, and to analyze alternative policy options for its development with a view to increasing the participation of the rural poor, women and small and medium enterprises. In 1999, team members launched an extensive survey of the pig and poultry subsectors. In 2000, the team will analyze the field data and design a model to simulate various linkages, and to analyze the effects of alternative policies on the income of smallholders and the non-farm rural poor.
