IFPRI Research Report 155. December 2007.
The conservation and improvement of genetic resources is essential for agricultural productivity for present and future generations. Fundamental changes are occurring today in the way stakeholders, including farmers, plant breeders, molecular scientists and genebank managers, use genetic resources. The research carried out under the Genetic Resource Policies theme focuses on understanding these changes, and on developing policies to promote sustainable management of agricultural biodiversity by enhancing poor farmers’ access to diverse crop genetic resources. Researchers partner with CGIAR centers, NGOs, and NARS, and other organizations in implementing research programs, carrying out policy analysis and disseminating information. In particular, many projects are developed jointly with Bioversity International.
