Objectives
The specific objectives of the program are expected to include:
- Evaluate key factors affecting sustainable land management (SLM), with particular attention to gender issues, land markets, and distribution of assets.
- Assess the impacts of land management practices on poverty and sustainability of the resource base, with particular attention to evaluating impacts on profitability and risk, household income, and environmental externalities; and identify synergies or trade-offs among these outcomes.
- Evaluate the implementation and impact of different approaches to promoting SLM, including technical assistance programs, incentives-based programs, state regulations, property rights and community-based organizations and institutions; as well as the potential for synergies among alternative approaches.
- Assess the effects of different policies, policy processes and governance structures on the effectiveness of alternative SLM strategies.
- Identify recommendations for different contexts, and develop and implement strategies for dissemination and policy impact.
