Gender and Property Rights Electronic Conference

The Gender-Property rights electronic conference has now finished and the e-mail listing has been closed. Discussion on gender and property rights with regard to land, water, and trees spanned over four months from September 1995 until the end of the year. The first two months of 1996 were spent in more general summary discussions that drew together the commonalities and differences in property rights to the three resources. Feedback from participants was very encouraging and the moderators, Lynn Brown, Ruth Meinzen-Dick, Hilary Feldstein, and Agnes Quisumbing, were surprised at how wide the dissemination of conference discussions was. In many instances one person with e-mail access was subscribed and acting as a focal point and passing the material onto many others. A very raw proceedings volume is coming close to completion. This will contain all the messages that were exchanged during the discussions but exclude all the extraneous information related to Internet connections! Participants' con-tributions will not be edited. We will be sending these proceedings to anyone who was both subscribed to the conference and submitted their mailing address; anyone else wishing to receive a copy of the proceedings should mark and return the tear-off slip at the end of the newsletter.
