Course Announcement

The fourth international course on Gender in Policy Development for Sustainable Land Use will be held from October 6 to 19, 1997, at the International Agricultural Centre (IAC), Wageningen, The Netherlands. The IAC is offering the course jointly with ETC, Consultants for Development Programmes, Leusden, The Netherlands. The course is meant for policymakers from both government organizations and NGOs in developing countries, as well as from donor agencies. Candidates should be engaged in agricultural or environmental policy development and actively involved in related gender issues.

The aim of the course is to strengthen the ability of the participants to develop policies that appropriately integrate sustainable land use with gender issues and enhance the motivation to take such concerns to heart. The course will provide the participants with information, viewpoints, and tools that will help them conceptualize and plan policies for sustainable land use from the perspective of gender. The training will be participatory and experience-based. Apart from lectures, training methods will include analyses of case studies, workshops in small groups, and individual work sessions. Participants, under the guidance of the resource persons, will work individually and in small groups on task assignments to internalize the new insights and information received. During the first week, emphasis will be on general concepts of policy development, sustainable land use, and gender. During the second week, the participants will use the acquired information and techniques to work out a plan for developing gender-sensitive policy on sustainable land use within their own organizations. Application forms can be requested by writing to The Director, IAC, P.O. Box 88, 6700 AB Wageningen, The Netherlands. Fax (31)-317-418552; E-mail: iac@iac.agro.nl.
