Upcoming Workshops and Conferences

Dagmar Kunze, farming systems development officer in FAO’s Regional Office for Africa in Ghana (dagmar.kunze@fao.org) requested that participants interested in a water harvesting workshop to be held in Niamey in October this year contact her. Proposals for presentations on water harvesting, especially on its economic impact on women or the household, are welcome.

The International Conference on Housing, Work and Development: The Role of Home-Based Enterprises, will be held 26-28 April 2000 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The Centre for Architectural Research & Development Overseas (CARDO) at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne is organizing the conference. By bringing together a wide range of knowledge and experience from around the world, CARDO hopes to address a broad range of issues relevant to home-based enterprises. The conference will adopt a critical approach to current policies on working in the home and will consequently generate guidelines to be promoted through international agencies. Closing date for the call for papers was June 1 (contact Justine Coulson at J.A.Coulson@ncl.ac.uk). To obtain a conference flyer complete with booking details an e-mail request can be sent to S.J.Lane@ncl.ac.uk.
